Are you okay with lying to children about the existence of...?

My parents, both devout Roman Catholics, told me from the very beginning that Santa and the Easter Bunny were fake. They were very emphatic about it. Because of that, I didn't end up having to undergo the disillusionment that other kids endured. I wouldn't telll kids that Santa or the Easter Bunny literally existed. Why set myself up as a liar? And telling children things that will leave them disillusioned is, in my opinion, cruel. However, my parents did tell me that our religion was the only one, and that if I ever left it, I'd burn in Hell. I am now considering leaving it, and it is an extremely difficult process due to all the years of nonstop cultural, familial and social conditioning.
